Chocolate ice cream Lab

                                                                       Ice Cream lab

* Is the Creation of Ice Cream a Chemical reaction? Yes
*whats Your favorite Flavor? Personally my favorite flavor is Mint chocolate Chip.

Back-Round information: Certain substances effect the state of the ice. For Example, when salt is sprinkled on ice it causes it to melt. This chemical reaction is actually a heat--->Energy Transfer. Water Freezes at 0 degrees Celsius. A saturated salt water solution freezes at -32  degrees Celsius.
*What happens if you sprinkle salt on ice? Over time (maybe In a few minutes) the ice will begin to melt from the increases of heat.

Material list:
1 tablespoon of chocolate flavoring
2 bags (Ziploc backs 1 big 1 small)
1 cup of milk
Tablespoon of sugar and salt
Cup of ice.

Procedure:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmavyOIQIz0

Data: 1.What kind of ice cream are you making? Chocolate?
2.Document the temperature of the ice in the gallon bag BEFORE adding the salt. ( 0 Degrees Celsius)
3. Document the temperature of the ice/salt mixture ( NOT THE ICE CREAM) in the gallon bag when the ice cream begins to solidify.--( close to -32 degrees Celsius)
4. what is the temperature difference before adding the salt and mixing for 5 minutes? The temperature decreases to -4 and begins to solidify.
5.What is the temperature before adding the salt and after mixing for 10 minutes? Now the Ice cream is a little more solid once is reaches -10 degrees Celsius. It is now ready to be eaten. :D

Conclusion questions:
1. What kind of chemical reaction is the process of ice cream making as done in are lab?
The process of making ice cream is a Endothermic reaction. This is because the salt is pulling in heat molecules around it and that build up of heat is causing the ice to melt letting only the cold air escape the bag.
2. Explain why salt water is harder to freeze then regular water: Salt draws in heat from the surrounding area, so even when it starts to freeze it starts to melt at the same time making the process take longer. And regular water has little to no heat at all making it freeze twice as fast.
3. Is the process of making Ice cream a Physical or chemical change?(Explain) the process of making ice-cream is a chemical change Because, the sugar mixes with the chocolate flavoring and the milk in order to create a slightly dark , sweet and creamy substance. And the salt melts the ice creating more water that gets colder from the rest of the ice. This cold water is used to continuously make the ice cream cold.
4.why is Salt used with ice instead of sugar? Well for starters the Ice wont melt with sugar coated over it because sugar doesn't attract heat Unlike salt.
